Aromatherapy the Natural Remedy for Sinusitis

Because Aromatherapy is often breathed and inhaled, it is the perfect natural remedy for Sinusitis.  Sinusitis may begin with a cold or upper respiratory infection.  It occurs when infection takes place in the sinus area.

Symptoms of Sinusitis include facial pain and headaches, pain in the facial region when bending down or leaning forward, nasal discharge, postnasal drip, and toothache.  Aromatherapy was one of the first methods used to treat Sinusitis.

There are many different herbs that have medicinal properties and their strong aromas help open up the sinus area and clear the nasal passages.  By inhaling the steam from herbal infusions you can benefit from near immediate relief of Sinusitis.

An Aromatherapy Inhaler is another way to treat Sinusitis.  To use an inhaler, you add your herbal essential oil to the inhaler, and then breathe in the aroma.  Because the herbs that are used to treat Sinusitis have very strong medicine properties, the inhalers are an excellent way to obtain those benefits.

Drinking Aromatherapy tea is another great way to treat Sinusitis.  You can purchase tea blends or make your own.  To make tea, simply make an infusion of one-ounce herbs to one pint of boiling water, sweeten to taste and sip while hot.  The steam and the herbs will penetrate through your pores and treat the Sinusitis.

Some of the best herbs to use for the treatment of Sinusitis include Eucalyptus, Fir, Cedarwood, Clove, Ginger, Thyme, Myrtle, Sandalwood, Rosemary, Peppermint, Marjoram, Tea Tree, and Bergamot.  Eucalyptus may be the first herb of choice for those suffering with Sinusitis.  Many people are familiar with this herb and associate it as “medicine”.

Eucalyptus has a very strong earthy smell, and is powerful as an inhalant.  You can make a blend of Eucalyptus and Cedarwood for a very strong infusion that will work immediately to treat Sinusitis.  Eucalyptus should be used with caution in children.

Another effective method for treating Sinusitis is to add one or two drops of Peppermint oil to a base such as Olive oil or Jojoba oil.  You can then apply this to the base of the nostrils and breathe in the fumes.

However, be warned that Peppermint oil is very powerful and it cools.  Make sure to use a small amount of Peppermint oil to the base oil.  In large amounts, Peppermint oil is very irritating to the skin, so use it sparingly.  You can also apply this to the forehead region in treating Sinus Pressure and headache as well.

Cedarwood is one of the other very powerful herbs used to treat Sinusitis.  It blends well with Eucalyptus and Sandalwood.  You can make a wonderful infusion of Cedarwood and blend it with Eucalyptus and drink it as a tea as well as use it in your vaporizer.

You can add a few drops of Cedarwood Oil in a pot of hot water, cover your head with a towel and inhale the vapors.  You can add any of these herbal Aromatherapy candles for your treatment as well.  Remember that when using Eucalyptus, that Eucalyptus will overpower the other herbs.
